You are what you eat change your diet into healthier ones. Plan your meals and buy groceries according to the plan. Pack your lunch so you don’t get takeout. Get an app for it to track how much you eat every day, never go shopping for food when hungry and don’t buy junk food. Try to buy healthier and lighter alternatives for each ingredient. Check the amount of carbohydrates, fat and sodium in food you want to buy. You’ll be surprised how much hidden calories are in some light or no fat version of food. Also pay attention to your portion size. Try to have more vegies every day. Your digestive system will thank you for it.
Get Moving Add one exercise to your everyday routine, walk to something instead of driving to it. Put your joggers in a visible place and wear them to motivate yourself. Dedicate half an hour each day to do some exercise like walking or yoga or at least start 3 times a week. The more you move the more calories you’ll burn and more muscle tone you’ll get. Muscles burn fat more so even when you’re asleep you’re burning calories, woohoo…
Hydration is the key They say 8 glasses of water every day is required for a healthy body. Don’t push yourself, start with a bottle of water every day, and get into the habit of drinking more. Especially at night when your body is in relaxed mode. All the organs function better when hydrated, skin glows and you’ll have more energy as water detoxes your body. Minimize caffeine drinks and soft drinks as they can have a lot of calories and make you feel (and look) bloated. Replace your coffee with herbal teas.
Skin is the first point of contact If you have excessive body hair, get it lasered .It’s much more doable in winter time as your skin is less exposed to the sun and laser hair removal is more effective. Exfoliate more often to get rid of dead skin cells built up. After the exfoliation put some body moisturizer all over to hydrate your skin specially arms and legs. Protect your skin with a good sunscreen with spf 50+ every day. Maybe even pamper yourself with a manicure and pedicure. Put a bright nail polish on your nails to lift up your mood.
Get Beachy Give your hair a trim or even do something a little bold with it, see what the new trend is and discuss it with your hairdresser to see if it suits you, lighter colours are better for summer so maybe a few highlights in your hair to lift it up. Watch YouTube videos of how to do hairdos and DIY styles. Put coconut oil to treat your hair once a week, sleep with it on your hair and wash it the next day, your hair will be softer and shinier. Use flat iron less and embrace beach curls.
Refresh your wardrobe Go through your clothes and pull out your summer dresses and shoes. Find out what your body type is and buy clothes accordingly. Detox your wardrobe of clothes you’ve never worn in a long time and make room for the new exciting additions.
No make up look Wear minimal make up, go natural, let your skin breathe, mascara a little blush and lip-gloss is all you need in summer (plus a good tinted sunscreen of course) in summer less is more. Go through your make up cupboard and throw away expired stuff. Get a bright lips colour if you don’t have one.
And don’t forget: summer bodies are made in winter, so start now …
